Rear end noise from 2004 G35 MT

This is the wifes car, it's a 2004 MT with Brembo and around 105Kmiles. It has a whine from the rear that starts in about 40MPH. I dont think it's brakes or trans/clutch related as its unchanged by stepping on brake or pushing in clutch.

The noise is a whine and goes with the speed of the car in motion. Has gotten progressively worse over the last few mos. Am going to swap rear wheels with my G to see if its tires.

If its not that, what's the next most likely cause? I havent seen any leaks but I will check oil level in the differential. I assume the rear axle has outer bearings that can be changed? Any other thoughts on what might be the cause?

I suspect it may be the rear wheel bearing hubs.

My front ones went bad at 100k miles, very noisy.

Do check differential oil. May want to change it.

Check DYI videos or search YouTube...

chock a front wheel front & back.
Put trans in neutral
Jack up rear, remove wheel (on nosiest side).
Turn hub by hand. If it feels the slightest rough then it's the bearing hubs.
If absolutely smooth, try the other side.
You want it to be the hubs, not the differential or main drive shaft...very less likely it's these but way more expensive to fix.

We both had the day off, (beautiful day in DFW BTW) and in the spirit of trying the easiest things first, I took my rears off my coupe and put on her car. Well it was night and day difference. It is definitely the tires making the noise. I was very surprised. They are Falken Ziex 512's and are less than a year old. Her car has been lowered and the rears are showing some signs of uneven wear where the inside tread is wearing more quickly than the rest of the tire.

Does she need a camber kit or what?
